After a year like 2020, we are all ready to move on and “return to normal”. But you don’t need me to tell you that 2021 is off to a rough start already. Between raising a family, working on your career and balancing a social life, it was difficult to live a stress free life before you add in the complexities of the pandemic, e-learning and working remotely. We know most of this will pass with time, but how do we reduce with the stress we are facing now?
1. Breathe
Feeling anxious right now? Close your eyes and take a deep, slow breath. We may be swamped with work or other obligations, but there is always time to take a few deep breaths to calm your nerves.
2. Meditate
This may seem redundant given number one on this list is Breathe, but spending 10-20 minutes a day meditating can have a profound impact on your stress levels and mental health as a whole. The great thing is that you don’t need anything fancy to meditate; just get into a comfortable position, close your eyes, and focus on your breathing. If your mind begins to wander that’s normal, just clear your mind and continue to try to only focus on your breathing.
3. Sleep
We all probably don’t get enough sleep because it’s the easiest thing to give up to fit more into our daily lives. The average adult needs between 7.5-9 hours every night to be fully rested. When we cut this short, not only have we not given our bodies enough time to heal and rest, there are also other negative affects such as an increase in cortisol, the stress hormone.
4. CBD
CBD oil works great to take the edge off of life while allowing you to stay mentally clear and focused. I take some along with my vitamins in the morning and it helps keep my anxiety at bay during the day while I’m working.
5. Exercise
This is the least fun item on the list but possibly the most important. Getting 20-30 minutes of cardio in each day will not only help you burn off excess energy, it will also help get you to sleep sooner and make you feel good about yourself when you’re done!
6. Unwind With A Good Movie
Pick a classic movie you absolutely love that you haven’t seen in a while. Constantly working and being productive can result in a burnout fatigue. Don’t be afraid to take some time for yourself!
Hopefully this post can help remind you of what you already know: take the necessary time to take care of yourself. Stretching yourself too thin is the greatest stressor of all!
